What makes Inuyasha special?

The son of a mortal woman and full-blooded demon, Inuyasha aspired to become a pure demon by eradicating her mortal blood. He always struggled to fit into the world of demons or humans. He was a misfit, consistently striving to find his place in the world. Since Inuyasha was a half-demon, he certainly had some of the perks of being one, but it also came with its drawbacks and limitations. His father’s demon blood gave him a lot of powers, but it gave him some strange physical features.

Accelerated Healing

Inuyasha can fight consistently thanks to his demon half, which helps him heal his wounds quickly. He can jump from one fight to another, healing severe wounds in the process. He can sustain heavy injuries and fight again in situations when most people would have died instead. The accelerated healing abilities have gotten him out of several tough situations. But, his healing does have its limits. He might be able to heal heavy injuries, but regenerating body parts won’t be possible. Still, Inuyasha’s accelerated healing is an important power that has saved him several times.

Blood hardening

Inuyasha can harden and manipulate his blood while fighting, which greatly helps his fighting prowess. He can withstand hard blows without getting affected much. It makes him more durable in battle. He even uses his blood as an emergency weapon and calls it the Blades of Blood. In this attack, he can use his hardened blood like claws, which are quite useful in unarmed combat.

Temporary Demon Form

Since Inuyasha is half-demon half-human, he is gifted with the powers and vulnerabilities of his parents. Once every moon cycle, he loses all of his demonic powers. In such a state, he needs to barricade himself from all sorts of threats. He has demon and human enemies who are always looking for opportunities to hurt him. So he must keep his vulnerable state a secret. Unfortunately, that option was no longer meaningful once talkative Shippo got to know about his big secret.

Inuyasha’s transformations are mostly physical. His claw size, eye, and hair color change depending on his form. But interestingly, there are also internal shifts as well. He not only loses his sense of smell and hearing, but his emotions also grow stronger. He appears to be more emotional in his human state and becomes more compassionate towards Kagome. So, just as his demon half makes him stronger, he is also weakened by his human-half.

Strong Senses

Having heightened senses will prove to be instrumental in fighting, but it also comes with several drawbacks. Sensory overload often turns out to be a curse since smells that barely register as strong for the human nose is enough to even knock out Inuyasha. Whenever a strong scent is placed near him, he struggles to focus and fails to look out for his target. It is a huge drawback that can be used against him. Even his sense of taste is heightened, which makes him incapable of tasting spicy food.

His strong senses are doubt-edged swords whose negatives are easily outweighed by the benefits. His strong sense of hearing allows him to hear the whispers of his enemies standing at a larger distance than him. His sense of smell allows him to track down enemies that are miles away. He uses his heightened senses to surprise his enemies, who would have no idea how Inuyasha could predict their actions from long distances.
