The Prequel of Army of the Dead Has Finished Shooting
Zack Snyder’s upcoming movie Army of the Dead has finished filming.
The American film is a story of a zombie heist written by Shay Hatten, Snyder, and Joby Harold. It stars Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Ana de la Reguera, Theo Rossi, Tig Notaro, Huma Qureshi, Garret Dillahunt, Raúl Castillo, Matthias Schweighöfer, and Omari Hardwick. Schweighöfer is also directing the movie. The movie is scheduled to stream on Netflix on an undeclared date in 2021.
The plot of the movie follows a group of mercenaries who plan a heist on Las Vegas during a zombie outbreak. The storyline will focus on the characters of the prequel film.
Warner Bros. and Universal Studios declared the movie in 2008. Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. was initially hired as the director of the movie. However, the project underwent development hell for several years, and later Netflix bought the distribution rights from Warner Bros. It also brought Snyder back to the franchise. Army of the Dead started the filming in mid-2019, with a production budget of $90 million.
The movie is described as the spiritual successor remake of George Romero’s 1978 classic independent horror movie Dawn of the Dead. The movie received some great speculations for Snyder’s return to the zombie genre. Recently, the director of the project, Snyder, revealed that the prequel to Army of the Dead had finished the filming. The award-winning director shared a picture of the cast on his Twitter account. Snyder thanked the streaming partner Netflix, as well the whole crew and cast of the film.
He captioned the photo as “That’s a wrap on Army of the Dead: The Prequel. Thanks to all the cast & crew and Netflix #armyofthedead #aotd.”

Like the director’s Justice League, the audience is also excited for his upcoming movie of the zombie genre. Fans of the franchise are also wondering if the project is a secret sequel of his favorite 2004 film Dawn of the Dead. However, there are not enough details regarding the plot to find out if the speculations are true. Even if the movie is a sequel, it would not be surprising if it takes place in the same universe as the previous one.
The release date of the Army of the Dead is not yet declared. The director might be planning to premiere the two movies back-to-back if the post-production is fast enough. It is also anticipating that the Army of the Dead is shaping into an expensive project.
