Android 12 beta: Tips to Install Google’s New Phone OS

Office release is yet to be finalized, but download your first public beta of Android 12.

Here is something good to hear for Android users, as the public beta of Android 12 is available to download now. Google provided the very first in-depth appearance of Android 12 at Google I/O and is delighted to say that the looks are remarkable. With the preview of new features and designs, Google also released the first public beta of Android 12, which can be installed on any compatible device and can test the new mobile operating system.

However, the public beta of operating systems generally contains bugs and viruses, so if anyone with a brave heart is ready to try out the early version, they should know about new features. The Android 12 beta will feature enhanced privacy controls and an adaptive interface, which can change the colors of your phone’s appearance according to your wallpaper.

With this new upgrade, Android devices will perform better with other gadgets such as Android TVs and Chromebooks. Before downloading the early public beta, here are some details to look out for in order to help Google test the new operating system.

Android 12 beta main recognition starts with Pixel series

Google has announced that the public beta of Android 12 is releasing for its lineup of Pixel phones. Here the particular models of Pixel phones that are allowed for testing, such as:

  • Pixel 4a
  • Pixel 5
  • Pixel 4
  • Pixel 4a (5G)
  • Pixel 3a
  • Pixel 3 XL
  • Pixel 3a XL
  • Pixel 3

According to Google’s announcement, other device manufacturers are participating in testing the Android 12 beta.

What is the procedure to test Android 12 in the Pixel model?

In case you own any of the above-mentioned Pixel models to start the testing of Android 12, you should start the process by going to the Android Beta Program website. Now sign in with the same Google account logged in to your phone. Before going further, Google will display warning content related to the operating system. Now you have to read the entire information and then agree once you are done.

The bottom side of the page will show you lists of models linked to your account that are allowed to take part in the testing beta. Tap on the ‘Opt-In’ button for the model to be enrolled in the program. Here comes the terms and conditions part, which you need to accept, and then tap ‘Confirm and Enroll’ once you are done.

If you are experiencing random issues, and the website is swirling up and down, then wait for an hour or two, and you can also keep trying.

The net step would be visiting Settings- System- Advanced- System update- Check for update on your phone. Your phone may require one or two minutes to display the update, and in case you do not get to see the pending update by clicking the first time on the update button, you need to let it rest for few minutes, then try again.

If your phone shows the update information, then process it by installing just like you download other updates. Once your phone reboots, it will be running on a test version of Android 12.

What if it’s not the Pixel model?

Google announced during keynote that its partners would release the first public beta of Android 12 for other devices as well. The lists that may get public beta are ZTE, Oppo, OnePlus, Sharp, Vivi, Asus, Tecno, TCL, and RealMe.

For the past years, the process of installing the update for vendors has been dissimilar. Usually, they need a strange kind of connection in order to install the update on your system. And it needed to reset the phone more often during the process of installing the update.

To enhance the installing process, Google issued a one-stop website on its developer’s website, which includes links of indications for each hardware partner participating in the beta program. However, some of the provided links are not processing, which may be going live through the rest of the day.

Can you leave beta? What’s the catch?

In case you are wondering if you can leave beta if it affected your device with bug problems or resulted in lesser battery life, then the answer is, yes, you can leave beta. But here comes the biggest catch, which says that you will need a factory reset in your phone to move back to Android 11. It is possible that you will be able to use an old backup plan to restore the Android 11 operating system in your phone, but it is also possible that you may lose some data during the process.

Visit the beta website again to leave the beta program, but this time you will need to tap on the Opt-Out button given below your phone. Now you need to wait for few minutes, and then check again on your phone for software update in Settings- System- Advanced- System update, Check for update. The next step will be installing the update, which will process factory reset on your phone. Once you are done, reset your phone from the start, including signing into your Google account.

If you need suggestions before installing the beta, then the best advice is to wait until the final launch of Android 12. Google is working on the final release of the update, which will provide enhanced battery life, and the developers will release upgrade with the compatibility of other devices as well.
