Apple MacBook Air (M1) – Review

The latest Apple MacBook Air comes with Apple’s M1 processor that promises to offer you a lot of things, including great power efficiency and a whole new level of performance. So let’s take a detailed overview of the device and see whether it stands on its promises or not. Here we go!

Design

The MacBook Air (M1) features two Thunderbolt ports along with a 3.5mm headphone jack and Magic Keyboard with Touch ID. The device is almost identical to the previous MacBook Air models; it features almost identical dimensions, speakers, and display specifications. This one is also made of aluminum like other MacBook Airs, it feels very premium, and its build quality is outstanding. Overall it looks fantastic, and you will be happy with its design.

Display

The device boasts a 13.3-inch IPS LED display with a 2,560×1,600 resolution and 16:10 aspect ratio. It offers 227 pixels per inch display quality along with up to 400nits brightness and True Tone technology. You also get a DCI-P3 wide color gamut with a display that accurately displays colors. Text looks sharp, and even the brightness is sufficient for indoor work; overall, the display of the MacBook Air (M1) is nice.

Performance

If we talk about the single-core performance of the MacBook Air (M1), it’s really fast. The device is comparatively faster than every Intel-based Mac. And if you look at its multi-core performance, you will be amazed. The device is very responsive and smooth. You can simultaneously run a variety of stuff on the device, including Safari with 20 tabs, Keynote, Pixelmator Pro, the Apple TV app, a Terminal, as well as App Store. You will never see any glitch while performing and switching between your tasks; it undoubtedly works fantastically.

Battery Performance

The device boasts a 49.9Wh lithium-polymer battery and comes with a 30W USB Type-C charger. The MacBook Air (M1) can last up to 32 hours when you use it normally at minimum screen brightness. However, if you use the device at 50% screen brightness, then it will last around up to 16 hours. And it will turn off in 8 hours if you use the laptop at 100% screen brightness. However, if you use the device heavily, like if you play games or watch movies on it, the screen time will be shorter. However, if we see the overall battery performance of MacBook Air (M1), honestly, it’s great.

Camera

The MacBook Air (M1) boasts a 720p webcam, which is very disappointing. It’s 2020, mobiles also have small cameras, and they are great at producing 4K videos, so it’s completely unfair to say that we can’t install a decent camera in a laptop due to its size. In my opinion, it would be better if Apple had upgraded the MacBook Air’s webcam. Overall, the webcam of the device is not up to the mark, and you will be disappointed with it.

Specs

The MacBook Air (M1) features the Apple M1 chipset along with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage (configurable up to 2TB). It runs on macOS Big Sur. Additionally, it boasts two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports and is available in four different colors; Gray, Silver, Space, and Gold.

Conclusion

You can get an Apple MacBook Air (M1 Chip) with 256GB of storage at $999. However, if you want to upgrade its RAM or storage, you will have to pay extra money. The device is very fast and works flawlessly. I would say that it’s a value for money product and you should consider it for buying. Thank you!
