Everything You Need to Know About Windows 10X
Windows is coming up with its new version for all the upcoming PCs and is likely to ship the hardware anytime soon in 2021. It’s based on a new version of Windows named ‘Windows Core OS,’ which features enhanced security and user experiences.
In simple words, from Windows Shell to the underlying OS, everything has been built using modern tech. Therefore, Windows 10X isn’t compatible with Win32 apps. Additionally, Windows 10X PC will run UWP, Microsoft Edge, and web apps in 2021.
Legacy Win32 is likely to arrive a little later next year; however, when it does, those applications won’t be able to affect the performance and battery.
New User Experience
Windows 10X features a user interface that is built using the latest technologies. It is adaptive as per your requirement; for instance, you might want to use it as a laptop, a tablet, or sometimes a tent mode for binge-watching. Therefore, the user interface offers an excellent user experience, no matter how you use it.
Additionally, there’s no more availability of Control Panel, error dialogs, File Explorer, and more on Windows 10X. As Microsoft has built the entire shell, nothing has been included from the past.
Notably, Windows 10X will only be available for traditional clamshell PCs at launch, aiming at enterprise markets and education.
New File Explorer
Components such as File Explorer from Windows 10 won’t be available on Windows 10X. Therefore, Microsoft has come up with a new File Explorer specifically for 10X, built around OneDrive.
As a web-first OS, Windows 10X includes your storage and management of files. All the files get synced with the OneDrive account by default. Not only this, but they’ll also remain available locally on the device.
Upgraded Windows Update
Microsoft is looking forward to improving the Windows update so that it becomes faster in Windows 10X. For instance, feature updates take a lot of time on Windows 10; however, that won’t happen with Windows 10X.
Automatic Security
Windows 10X has come up with ‘state separation.’ As everyone’s familiar with, Windows 10 downloads everything into a single partition, meaning that the users and apps can access system files. On the other hand, on Windows 10X, the read-only partition is used. Therefore, OS files, app files, drivers, and the registry gets locked. Notably, only users and the apps can access the user partition.
It also means that no malware or virus could enter the system and affect the same, keeping it safe by default.
Additionally, the Mail and Calendar app won’t be a part of Windows 10X. These are removed because the first version of Windows 10X focuses on commercial markets. Therefore, it won’t work for the mainstream markets till 2022.
Unfortunately, as Windows 10X is a whole new operating system, it won’t be released for Windows 10 users.
