ASUS TUF Dash F15 Good but Not the Best
Even though Asus’ TUF (“The Ultimate Force”) brand gives importance to performance and value over the attractive design, the Dash F15 is beautifully designed with a premium look and feel. The base of the laptop is made from smooth plastics making up it reassuringly thick and strong. The metal lid backing gives another nice feel it, too, is impressively very rigid. The good-looking TUF logos that decorate the lid are showy and bold without being polarized.
The TUF Dash F15 has an average size and weight at 0.78 by 14.2 by 9.9 inches (HWD) and 4.4 pounds. Its side and top screen bezels are remarkably small, but I think the bottom one should have been a little thinner. For some reason, Asus didn’t provide enough space for a webcam, but there is a dual microphone for voice chats. And also, a fingerprint reader missing.
A plethora of shortcut buttons at the top left include volume up and down, microphone off, and one to launch Asus’ Armoury Crate control panel. The latter provides system monitoring, keyboard controls for example the ability to disable the Windows key, and also display color settings.
The TUF Dash F15’s port selection is above also average all the credit is given to the Thunderbolt 4/USB-C port on its left side. Additionally, you can use the laptop to charge the notebook, but Asus’ proprietary AC adapter must be connected for full performance. The plug for the latter is somewhat awkwardly located in the middle of the laptop’s left edge, which is not that accessible
This notebook’s speakers project loud and clear, and it produces sound from under the palm rest. But we had no trouble using them for casual gaming since the TUF’s fan noise is quite silent, but the noise is unlikely to attract glances from those around you.
That said, the TUF Dash F15’s gaming performance is above average only, with its last-generation gaming notebooks since its GPU is constrained to a low power level; it seems not all RTX 3070 notebooks are created equal. However, it runs relatively cool and quiet which is a plus.
Value-wise, our $1,699 model looks fascinating in white, but it’s expensive next to the dark gray $1,449 model that offers identical features. The entry-level $1,099 Best Buy model looks like an even better value. If you do decide to go TUF, just remember to also budget to buy an external webcam.
In short, Asus’ new TUF Dash F15 includes a batch of specs that offer quite a bit of power when it’s needed and long-lasting efficiency when it’s not which makes it the ultimate beginners gaming laptop. But while the laptop provides a good balancing act and some relatively smooth gaming, we are not confident that it’ll be perfect for everyone, mainly because it doesn’t make the cut for most of the things that laptops are usually used for.
